The Parents & Friends Committee
Parents are a key part of scouting. Their support is vital for the successful delivery of the scouting programme. The Parents and Friends Committee reports to the Group Council and are always looking for members. If you can't afford the time to become a leader then please consider helping us with out on the committee.

The Parents and Friends Committee are there to support the delivery of scouting and, in 10th Dublin (Kilternan’s) case, they have agreed to: Fund raising in 10th Dublin
As we all know, it costs a lot of money to run any organisation. In addition to the normal costs of upgrading and renewing equipment, rent for the hall and other administrative costs, 10th Dublin (Kilternan) tries to subsidise many of the activities it organises (for example summer camp and events throughout the year – Bar-B-Q - Quiz etc.). This means that 10th Dublin (Kilternan) must engage in some fundraising during the year. All additional funding raised by the group goes to support scouting in all our sections (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Ventures, Rovers and Leader Training).
Fund Raising Activities
The parents and friends run a number of fund raising activities during the year which include:
  • An Annual Subscription.b Currently this is €165 - Discounts are available for siblings. The subscription is paid at the start of the year. Most of this money is paid to Scouting Ireland for registration. This sub also includes the rent of the hall, insurance for the group and the scouts and a contribution towards the cost of leader training.
  • The "12 Days of Christmas" raffle. For the 12 days of Christmas raffle, tickets are printed and managed by Scouting Ireland. Last year they cost €2 each and each scout was asked to sell a book of 20 tickets. We expect that it will be the same this year. Half of the money raised here goes to 10th Dublin (Kilternan) and half is returned to Scouting Ireland.
  • The 10th Dublin (Kilternan) annual. This is a new form of fundraising in our scout group and we hope that it will become bigger and better with each year.
  • Occasional grants that might be available from the County Council. These are usually specific purpose capital grants or grants towards particular types of training. In 2009 we received a grant which helped towards the storage container for our equipment.
  • Bag Packing takes place in some of our local supermarkets. This allows us to raise money from the public and is important that if your child is asked to participate that they do their fair share. Cubs and Beavers are too young to take part so we would ask parents to do their bit and help out on these days.
